CloudEx Inc. ("we", "us", or "our") operates the "Sound Meter Pro" app (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to you. By using the Service, you are deemed to have agreed to the practices described in this Policy.
1. Our Core Principle
Sound Meter Pro is an app that measures sound levels, shows the frequencies of sound, and plays tones. With your permission, it uses your device's microphone. The sound is analysed only on your device, and the app does not send sound or measurements to us or to any third party. Specifically, we do not have access to any of the following:
- The sound picked up by your microphone
- Your measurements and your saved records
- The audio clips that the app saves if you turn on "Record the moment it's exceeded"
Your measurements and records leave your device only in the following cases: when you yourself export or share them (Section 3.3), and when the backup of your device that Android makes includes your saved records (Section 3.2). Audio clips are excluded from that backup and are shared only when you choose to share them.
2. Microphone and Audio Clips
Sound Meter Pro uses the microphone only after you allow it, to measure the sound level and to show the frequencies of sound.
- When the microphone is used: While a measuring screen of the app is open. In the background, the microphone is used only while you run a long recording or while the floating meter is on, and a notification is shown the whole time.
- Analysis on your device: The sound is analysed only on your device. Neither the sound nor your measurements are sent to us or to any third party.
- Audio clips: The app records audio only if you turn on "Record the moment it's exceeded" (a Premium setting). Each time the level goes above your threshold, the app then saves a short clip: from 3 seconds before the level went above the threshold until 2 seconds after it came back down, up to 30 seconds per clip. The clips are saved only on your device, are excluded from Android's cloud backup, and are shared only when you choose to share them.
- When this setting is off, the app does not record audio.
3. Information We Collect
3.1 Information Collected Automatically
- Crash reports: Via Firebase Crashlytics (Google). When the app crashes, information about the crash is collected, such as your device model, your Android version, the app version, the place in the app's code where the crash happened, the time, and an installation identifier created by Crashlytics. Crash reports do not include sound, recordings, or measurements.
- Purchase information: Premium is a one-time in-app purchase handled by Google Play Billing. To unlock Premium, the app asks Google Play whether your purchase exists. We never receive your payment details, such as card numbers.
The app does not use Firebase Analytics and does not use advertising identifiers. Sound Meter Pro has no account and no login.
3.2 Information Stored Only on Your Device
- App settings: Your settings, including the calibration value.
- Saved records: The numbers you measured, the names you give your records, and their times.
- Audio clips: Only if you turn on "Record the moment it's exceeded" (Section 2).
- Device backup: The backup of your device that Android makes with your Google account may include your settings and your saved records. Audio clips are excluded from this backup.
You can delete records in the app. Uninstalling the app deletes everything that the app has stored on your device.
3.3 Exports and Sharing
A CSV file, a PDF report, a text summary, or a spectrum image is created only when you ask for it. It is handed to the app that you choose in Android's share sheet, and it goes only where you send it. Audio clips are also shared only when you choose to share them.
3.4 Information We Do Not Collect
- The sound picked up by your microphone, your measurements, your saved records, and your audio clips
- Your location, contacts, photos, phone number, or calendar (the app does not ask for permission to access them)
3.5 Permissions the App Requests and Their Purposes
Sound Meter Pro uses the following OS permissions only for the stated purposes:
- Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO) — Used to measure the sound level and to show the frequencies of sound, as described in Section 2.
- Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS, Android 13 and later) — Used to show the status of a long recording or of the floating meter, the Stop button while a tone is playing, and the alerts when the level goes above your threshold.
- Foreground service (FOREGROUND_SERVICE / FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MICROPHONE / FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK) — Used to keep a long recording, the floating meter, and tone playback running while the app is not on the screen.
- Display over other apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW) — Used only for the floating meter, which shows a small sound meter on top of other apps. It does not read the screen or the content of other apps.
- Vibration (VIBRATE) — Used for the alerts when the level goes above your threshold.
- Run at startup (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED) — Used only to clear a "recording" mark that is left over after your device restarts.
- Internet (INTERNET) — Used for crash reports, purchases, the list of our other apps, and showing this Policy (Section 4). Measuring does not need an internet connection.
4. Internet Connections
Besides crash reports and purchases (Section 3.1), the app uses the internet only in the following cases:
- "Our other apps": To show the "Our other apps" screen and the card in Settings that introduces one of our other apps, the app downloads a list of our other apps (a JSON file and icons) from a server operated for us (Cloudflare Pages). No personal information is sent. As with any web request, the server receives your device's IP address and user agent. The store links in the list open Google Play.
- This Privacy Policy: The app loads this page from soundmeterpro.cloud-ex.biz. As with any web request, the server receives standard request information, such as your device's IP address and user agent. If the page cannot be loaded, the app shows a copy that is built into the app.
- Rating and update prompts: The app may show Google Play's In-App Review (a prompt to rate the app) and In-App Update (a prompt to update the app). These are provided by Google Play.
